Even if the letter you sent does not have an immediate, life-changing impact, you have kindly planted the seeds of doubt, and hopefully it will help him down the road to see for himself that what you said is true. I'm truly sorry you're going through this. I hope he and his wife get out of the jws because of your efforts. Hugs! Good luck and best wishes.

Are you a 'Life is Over-rated' or a 'life is what you make it' type person?
by needproof ini was wondering who out there is a 'life is what you make it' type person.
i must admit that i am a 'life is over-rated' type.
i don't wish to sound negative but how can you say to a kid born in war torn sudan 'oh, get over it... life is what you make it!'.

Name "UNWRITTEN" Rules That JWs Are Supposed To Follow
by minimus inas with the scribes and pharisees, there are a number of unwritten rules that witnesses are supposed to follow.
here's a couple : "worldly" kids in society depictions are shown quite often wearing their baseball caps backwards.
jehovah's witness youths would not want to imitate that "look".

Madame Quixote takes a deep bow . . . and owwwww!!! . . . can't straighten up for the weight of her service bag . . .
Hilarious:"What's the matter, cult boy? Too cold for street work today?"
Yeh, I guess it is pretty cold all over the place, even in the carolinas today! I did not even want to walk the dog this a.m.
I wonder if "cultboy" is counting this in his svc. reports? hmmm. . . not a bad idea. . . here little cult boy, come and help us out of our deluded ideas; we're waiting to hear more . . .
No, seriously, that's so rude, welcome to the forum and feel free to defend jehovah's witnesses. We all used to do the same thing - me, I outgrew it around 14 or 15, but I was just lucky.
Really, welcome to the forum!

No. 4 unspoken rules of JWs:
Don't think or feel.
Don't question.
Don't act (on your questions or feelings).
(Therefore,) Don't Be.

Renee, as you must know, she's just playing the emotional blackmail card. If you give in, she'll just keep pushing you to 'show how much you love her' until ultimately demanding that you "return to Jehovah's way" or whatever she says to mean "come back to the intravenous feeding tube of the JW version of truth, meant for people who don't want to feed themselves whole and meaningful knowledge about anything - religious or secular. My whole JW family thinks and acts the same way. sorry you're having to deal with it. Hope you can get a break from her nagging.

Isn't that just so frigging annoying? Especially when you're suffering from bipolar graphomania? Thank goodness there are other places to proselytize!

'THE DAWKINS DELUSION' New book responds to Dawkins 'The God Delusion'
by nicolaou inin the wake of richard dawkins bestseller 'the god delusion' (which i and many others here have read) there has been a good deal of rebuttal from the 'faith' community.
now a new book is out published by alister mcgrath, professor of theology at oxford university.
it is entitled 'the dawkins delusion'.. has anyone read it or ordered it yet?

Probability and statistics are not my strong suit, but I do understand that science - particularly evolutionary theory - must rely on those fields to ascertain the likelihood of theories. As Abbadon has so simply pointed out, some things are more reasonable to believe than others.
Additionally, science relies on more than mere "naive empiricism" for its assumptions, which are based in testable and falsifiable hypotheses, not in mere observation (see: http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/comdesc/sciproof.html).
